Our Doctors

Marc Rothstein, DVM and Owner

As a child, Dr. Marc Rothstein kept everything from fish and ducks to chickens and dogs as pets. He always felt a strong bond with creatures of all types, and as he got older, Dr. Rothstein found that the science behind animal care fascinated him as well. Becoming a veterinarian was the perfect career path!

Dr. Rothstein was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, and attended the University of Minnesota’s College of Veterinary Medicine to receive his veterinary degree. He then served as a Captain in the United States Army’s Veterinary Corps during the Vietnam War. In 1975, Dr. Rothstein opened Golden Valley Animal Hospital’s first location, not far from the current site.  In 1980, he opened Greenbrier Animal Hospital.

As a vet, Dr. Rothstein particularly enjoys surgery because he likes working with his hands—seeing the results of his work after a pet is healed up is extremely satisfying for him. He also likes to perform “surgery” on computers and other things that tend to break around the office.

At home, Dr. Rothstein has one pet of his own: Marley, a dog that Dr. Rothstein adopted when the previous owner could no longer keep him. Dr. Rothstein’s grandchildren are delighted when Marley does tricks in exchange for treats!

Leslie Goldblatt, DVM and Owner

Dr. Leslie Goldblatt was always one of those kids who would bring strays home and ask, “Mom, can we keep him?” For as long as she can remember, Dr. Goldblatt has appreciated the unconditional love pets offer—she knows that pets help make us better human beings, and she’s made nurturing that connection her life’s work!

Dr. Goldblatt grew up in St. Louis Park, Minnesota as the oldest of three children. After high school, she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work but wasn’t satisfied with her career options. While looking through a large reference book of careers, Dr. Goldblatt came across the “veterinarian” entry. Immediately, she knew that was what she was destined to do! She took all the required undergraduate courses, applied to veterinary school at the University of Minnesota, and was accepted.

Dr. Goldblatt worked as an Associate Veterinarian at a metro-area practice for the first 13 years of her career. In 1995 she started at Greenbrier and Brookview Animal Hospital—which would later become Golden Valley Animal Hospital—and signed on as a co-owner in 1998.

Dentistry is one of Dr. Goldblatt’s favorite parts of her job. Sending pets home with clean teeth and fresh breath gives her great satisfaction! She’s also passionate about geriatric medicine and is certified in veterinary acupuncture, which allows her to alleviate pets’ pain and discomfort in a non-invasive way.

Dr. Goldblatt has three grown daughters, a son-in-law, and a granddaughter. She lives with her husband Bernie and their gentle rescued dog, Beanie. In her time away from the clinic, Dr. Goldblatt stays active by running regularly, weight training twice a week, and practicing Pilates. She’s also fond of reading and is a certified scuba diver.

Heidi Blackburn, DVM

Dr. Heidi Blackburn’s inspirational moment came in 10th grade biology class, when she dissected a fetal pig to learn about anatomy. From that point forward, the study of biology became Dr. Blackburn’s primary focus. In college, she realized that working in the veterinary field was the perfect way for her to combine her fascination with science and her love of animals!

Dr. Blackburn is a Minneapolis native. After high school, she attended Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon to receive her Bachelor’s degree, simultaneously working at a local veterinary clinic. She also gave her time to the University of Minnesota’s Raptor and Wildlife Rehabilitation center before starting veterinary school there. After graduating with her DVM degree, Dr. Blackburn completed an internship at Cornell University before working at various practices in the Twin Cities area. In 2001, she joined the compassionate team here at Greenbrier Animal Hospital.

Being able to provide excellent medical care to pets and learning something new every day are Dr. Blackburn’s favorite parts of her workday. She also loves working closely with families and tailoring treatments for each and every pet owner.

Dr. Blackburn lives with her significant other, Rich, and their cat, Smudge. When she isn’t caring for pets or spending time with family and friends, Dr. Blackburn enjoys working out, going ballroom dancing with Rich, growing flowers and vegetables, and walking or biking around the local lakes.

Kristin Reimann, DVM

Dr. Kristin Reimann has always been fascinated by medicine, and initially thought she wanted to go to school to treat human patients. When she realized she preferred not to work in the niche fields that human physicians specialize in, something else came to mind: why not combine her passion for science with her love of animals? Now, Dr. Reimann is an Associate Veterinarian here at Greenbrier Valley Animal Hospital.

Dr. Reimann grew up in Wayzata, Minnesota and attended Northwestern University in Illinois for her undergraduate studies. During her senior year there, she began working at the Anti-Cruelty Society, the largest animal shelter in Chicago, as well as at the Brookfield Zoo. After graduation, she started working as an assistant here at the clinic, then began veterinary school at the University of Minnesota’s College of Veterinary Medicine.

The best part of her job, says Dr. Reimann, is the relationships she gets to forge with pet owners. Above and beyond her love of medicine, the people she serves are her reason for coming to work every day.

Dr. Reimann and her husband live in Orono with their young children, Leo the family dog, and a pair of cats named Francis and Ava. When she isn’t caring for pets around the clinic, Dr. Reimann enjoys boating in the summer and skiing and sledding during the winter months. She’s also fond of going to the zoo and aquarium with her family.

Ashley Zisko, DVM

Dr. Ashley Zisko began her college career as a pre-med major studying human medicine and science. It wasn’t long, though, before she realized that something was missing. She had been involved with rescue organizations as well as spay-and-neuter assistance programs for many years—it was there that Dr. Zisko’s passion lay! She decided to combine her passion for medicine and her love of animals by becoming a veterinarian, and hasn’t looked back since.

Dr. Zisko grew up in Atlanta, Georgia and East Lansing, Michigan. She attended the University of Notre Dame for her undergraduate studies, majoring in pre-med and classical studies, before earning her veterinary credentials at the University of Minnesota’s College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Zisko has now lived in Minneapolis for nearly 10 years, and was thrilled to accept a job helping the community she loves so much—she’s one of Golden Valley Animal Hospital’s Associate Veterinarians!

Along with her husband, Patrick, Dr. Zisko shares her life with a rescue dog from Mexico, Daisy. In her time away from work, she enjoys spending time on the water, renovating her home, tending her garden, and traveling the world with her husband.
